Acer Iconia dual screen computer

Check out this incredible hands on from engadget. I think is the future of personal computers, but only if they start making them with e-ink color displays!

source – engadget.com/ By Ross Miller

Acer’s dual-screen Iconia laptop is bold, for sure — eschewing a physical keyboard for another display — but its LCD panels are also mighty glossy. If you’ve got a light in the vicinity above you, there’s gonna be glare — we saw it on stage, and we just saw it now in person. That said, the screen is clear and the touch functionality is pretty clever (five fingers open up a widget where you can scroll through other touch-friendly apps). The keyboard, on the other hand, is pretty hard to use — even the rep admitted there’s a learning curve. You can’t rest your fingers down without hitting something, of course. We managed to browse to Engadget, but it took several tries. Check out the photos below!

Do-It-Yourself iPad,WePad,CrunchPad what ever you may call it -Kit

read original post with videos at – techcrunch.com/

Those you you who’ve been following the CrunchPad project since we first announced it in the summer of 2008 weren’t too happy to hear about the recent…hiccups…that we continue to fight through.

But never fear, while we continue to clean up the mess that our Asian contractor left behind we’ve been hard at work on a new project that lets anyone create an iPad like device from any laptop screen. It’s called the CrunchPad Kit and it goes on sale now. Best of all, we’re selling this for just $49 as an introductory price. Once 800 have sold, or about $44,000 in revenue, we’ll be moving to a higher price.

The CrunchPad team has been working around the clock here at our Palo Alto headquarters to get the kit ready for full production in time for the delivery of the iPad on April 3.

We know you want an iPad, but you aren’t as excited about that $499+ price tag. With the CrunchPad Kit, you can turn any laptop screen into a device that’s just as good, for a fraction of the price.

Introducing The CrunchPad Kit

The kit contains everything you need to convert any laptop screen into a fully functional touch screen device. The key piece of technology is a transparent resizable modular touch screen overlap material that you add to the screen after removing it from the rest of the laptop. You then install the remaining electronics, as well as a power supply, and the device is ready to go. Also included in each kit is a 4G module that you can optionally activate and add to the device for always-on connectivity.

There’s real technology here, particularly in the touch module, that we’ve developed with our new partner. A number of patents have been filed around this new research, which we’re calling the F.U.J.J. With the F.U.J.J. you can convert any laptop screen of any size, up to 17 inches, into a CrunchPad.

There’s more information in the video above, including a complete walk through of the five minute installation process. Order your CrunchPad Kit now, we expect to be completely sold out within 48 hours.

Here’s one last picture of the Asian team we hired to help us build this product working on the F.U.J.J. from our office in Palo Alto after we sponsored their immigration visas to get them over here.

Tromso university students show off an amazing interactive display wall

source – engadget.com/ By Vladislav Savov

Take everything you thought you knew about multitouch and throw it out. Okay, keep the Minority Report stuff, but throw everything else out. What we’re looking at here is a 22 megapixel display, stitched together from the output of no less than 28 projectors (7,168 x 3,072 total resolution), which just happens to respond to touch-like input in a fashion even Tom Cruise would find fascinating. You don’t have to actually touch the wall, floor-mounted cameras pick up your gestures in 2D space and a 30-node computer setup crunches all the computational and visual data to deliver some buttery smooth user interaction. For demo purposes, the makers of this system grabbed a 13.3 gigapixel image of Tromso and took it for a hand-controlled spin. See the mesmerizing show on video after the break.

Amazing Home Breaking Architecture Rules in Tokyo’s Center

source – freshome.com/ Author: Michael

We do not know if you guys recall, but we had some information on this project in a previous Freshome post. Today we are back with more pictures on its unusual architecture and with something extra regarding its interior design. The project is called “Reflection of Mineral” and belongs to Japanese architect Yasuhiro Yamashi from Atelier Tekuto. Located not far from the center of Tokyo, the contemporary 480 sq ft (44 sq m) residence breaks the architecture rules its surroundings. The amazing abstract shape was designed very efficiently, making use of the little space. Every angle of site brings with it a different view. The interior’s original shapes and dimensions are determined by the architecture and the arrangements had to be done accordingly. You can check out the final results in the pictures below. Enjoy!

Svilen Gamolov Cage Chair

source – designyoutrust.com

The pursuit of industrial design is often a perilous slope, with a combination of unforgiving materials and minimalist applications making aesthetic achievement a difficult prospect, but Svilen Gamolov’s ‘Cage’ chair succeeds where others have failed. The chair, which combines a frame made up of steel and wood with an upholstered seat, demonstrates Gamolov’s ability to interplay industrial aspects with necessary comforts. Ultimately, the ‘Cage’ succeeds because all of the careful thoughts and efforts incorporated in it remain so highly unified that they are concealed to the viewer, as they should be.
