Apple Posts A Boatload Of New iPad Footage

source – techcrunch.com/ by Jason Kincaid

There’s less than a week to go until the iPad’s April 3 launch date, but up until now footage of people actually using the device has been relatively scant — there’s the Steve Jobs keynote address, a few Flip-cam recordings from the twenty minutes reporters had after the keynote, and a whirlwind commercial. Today, we’re getting much, much more: Apple has just posted a series of eleven Guided Tours that walk you through many of the device’s core features, including Safari, Mail, iBooks, and the iWork suite.

If you want to get a feel for what can be done with an advanced app on the iPad, check out the iWork apps. The Keynote video, in particular, is impressive — it shows how you can use multi-touch to rearrange slides, place and resize images, and create animated effects using a feature called ‘Magic Move’. It looks very slick, though we’ll have to try it for ourselves before we can determine if it’s as efficient as its desktop counterpart.

We can’t embed the videos here (you’ll have to head to Apple’s site to watch them), but here are some screenshots showing off the device.

Apple posts up iPad Guided Tours

source – engadget.com/ by Nilay Patel

iPad pre-orders are just starting to ship out and Best Buy is getting prepped, but Apple’s just posted up a whole slew of its Guided Tours to hold you over until April 3. Sadly, we’re not seeing any entries for “How Do You Type While Standing Up” or “Why Do I Need A $30 Dongle To Get A USB Port On This Thing,” but the entries for Mail, Safari, iBooks, and the rest do include some revealing new information — and it certainly seems that tap-and-hold will be a big part of the UI paradigm. We’re still watching them all — let us know if you see anything interesting in comments.

Update: Okay, here’s the new stuff we’ve seen so far:

  • iBooks has an integrated search feature, a built-in brightness control, and a dictionary that can pull up any word just by tapping on it. The same dictionary is in Pages, too — we’re assuming it’s a system-wide feature available to any app, just like on Mac OS X. We’ve been told in the past that it supports user dictionaries and spellcheck, but we’ll see what actually ends up shipping.
  • There’s a quick mention of connecting the iPad to your home stereo in the iPod video, but no mention of streaming to the Airport Express or an Apple TV. There’s a big missed opportunity.
  • Typing with one hand on the portrait keyboard in Pages looks just as silly as you’d expect.
  • Numbers has a special formula keyboard.
  • Tap and hold is everywhere, and unlike the iPhone, the UI has “windows,” which are detailed info panes that float above the main app interface. The iWork apps also all have a “menu bar” area in the upper right that contain several options. You can see how interacting with an iPad will be familiar but still quite different than using an iPhone — depending on the apps, of course.

The NEW iPhone 4G?

source – hubpages.com/ By Clandestine

Are you ready? Release likely around June or July of 2010.

Lots of speculation is going around on the new iPhone 4g… in HD!!

Verizon Wireless is currently testing a CDMA version of the iPhone 4G and Verizon confirms they are making network changes to bring the iphone to their network. The new iPhone 4g is going to be loaded with awesome new features like video chat, multi-tasking and extreme downloading. (List of possible features below). Just when you think there is nothing else to come up with, more and more and more technology comes out. And it is on the rise, and not just at Apple, Inc!

Woo hoo! This iPhone 4g could also have dual core processors and higher and powerful graphic chips that can deliver higher video resolutions and better “still” images when taking pictures.

There are a few networks working on building a 4G network. T-mobile would be a likely carrier since they are GSM already. Sprint has a 4G network already… AT&T and Verizon Wireless are in the beginning stages. There are talks of Verizon Wireless getting iPhone sometime in 2010 since the exclusive contract with AT&T expires, but it could be renewed until 2012.

Whether or not it will be 4G will be up to them!… can they build in time? Regardless, there is much anticipation on how many people will leave AT&T for Verizon Wireless because of AT&T’s lagging on app restrictions like Slingplayer and Google Voice and Skype (on #g network, not Wi-Fi).

AT&T’s restrictions have caused the percentage of people that are JailBreaking their iPhones to rise since Jail Breaking usually comes with Cydia which is the app store for jail broken phones. Most of the applications, ringtones, and even iphone themes!…are free with Cydia. Winterboard is part of the download, and it very easily add’s the changes to your phone so you dont have to figure how to do it on your own…it is VERY automated.

The Palm Pre on Sprint (Sprint now offering a 4G network) has made an attempt at being competitive with iPhone and Blackberry…but it’s not looking good. Maybe their recent Android phone will help.

iPhone 4G looks promising in terms of being sleek, packed with new hardware and multi-tasking software. Very exciting.

A few features of iPhone 4G:

  • A new, sleeker body design.
  • OLED screen.
  • Multi-Tasking. (use multiple functions at once without going in and out of apps)
  • iChat camera (on the front so you can have video chat!!!)
  • 32G (basic) and 64G of memory. Your sure to never run out.
  • Removable Battery.
  • Hi Definition Camera.
  • Hi Definition Camcorder.
  • Hi Definition audio.
  • Messaging light.
  • True GPS built in.

Netbook Mac OS X Compatibility Chart

source – netbooked.net/

On which netbooks you can install Mac’s OS X – read on..

When it came to OS X on netbooks the only chart I knew about was the Boing Boing OS X compability chart. It hasn’t been updated in ages though and the list of netbooks are old-ish and small in number.

Now there’s a new OS X compatibility chart on the block over at mymacnetbook.com.  Well actually apart from the ASUS Eee PC 1201 (which doesn’t support Wi-Fi and LAN with OS X it seems) all the other netbooks are old-ish.

The new blog seems like it’ll be a good place to keep up with the latest OS X happenings on netbooks, outside of forums.

Apple job posting hints at LTE for a future iPhone 4G

source – engadget.com/ By Richard Lai

What could possibly come after the iPhone 3GS? The iPhone 3GSS, of course! Joking aside, turns out Apple‘s already dropped the 4G bomb on one of its job postings in May 2009 while seeking for a “Cellular Technology Software Manager” with “expert knowledge of… WCDMA/UMTS, HSPA, HSPA+, LTE etc.” That’s right, LTE. Now, we’re not saying this means a 4G-powered iPhone is next in line in the annual product cycle, nor does this listing confirm Apple’s favored 4G radio (be it a decoy or an eventual change of heart), but given AT&T’s interest in LTE plus its prolonged love affair with Cupertino, it’s pretty hard to not consider LTE as a realistic option on future Apple portables. Frankly, it won’t be the end of the world if a 4G iPhone fails to turn up this summer — most of us here would rather have something with improved battery life, real multitasking, and 720p camera over those insane data speeds. No, really.

I’ve been out a few days and the hell broke loose (kidding, of course): as anticipated Apple offers the iPad for preorder, with deliveries scheduled for April 3rd (or 5th for the zones in US when Saturday deliveries are a dream). Because everyone wants it, or so Apple hopes, you’re limited to just two pieces per individual, but if you have a big family you might get over this limitation and make a few bucks on Ebay, right?

Apple kept his word and prices are as announced on January 27th when the official unveiling of the iPad took place, so here they are for you to see in a glance:

But wait, there’s also a bunch of accessories you could purchase to sweeten things (or round the price if you like). I suppose there’s no restriction on the number of accessories you can buy but why would you want more than one per iPad? Here they are for your pleasure:

Oh, and almost forgot: the iPad is only available in US for preorder. Others might want to wait, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing as this interesting PCWorld article says about preordering the first device of its kind and the stupidity in that. What do you think? Are you among the 120.000 who preordered the iPad in the first 24 hours or are you waiting for more than iPad advertising to make a decision?
Preorder now, get it April 3rd

LG says it’s launching a product to ‘compete with Apple and Amazon,’ maybe by April

source – engadget.com author – Donald Melanson

LG isn’t dishing out many details about this one just yet, but company exec KW Kim (head of LG’s Middle East and Africa Operations) has told Emirates Business that LG will soon be launching a product — “maybe by April” — that “will compete with Apple and Amazon.” And, well, that’s about it. As you may recall, however, LG has been showing off various bits of technology for e-book readers over the past little while, including a solar-powered system designed specifically for e-readers and, of course, someflexible e-paper displays that have already turned up in the Skiff Reader. In other LG news, Kim also dropped word that the company is talking with Etisalat about a new line of “notebooks” (possibly netbooks) that would use “Google’s operating system,” although it’s not clear if he was referring to Chrome or Android.
