Amazing Home Breaking Architecture Rules in Tokyo’s Center

We do not know if you guys recall, but we had some information on this project in a previous Freshome post. Today we are back with more pictures on its unusual architecture and with something extra regarding its interior design. The project is called “Reflection of Mineral” and belongs to Japanese architect Yasuhiro Yamashi from Atelier Tekuto. Located not far from the center of Tokyo, the contemporary 480 sq ft (44 sq m) residence breaks the architecture rules its surroundings. The amazing abstract shape was designed very efficiently, making use of the little space. Every angle of site brings with it a different view. The interior’s original shapes and dimensions are determined by the architecture and the arrangements had to be done accordingly. You can check out the final results in the pictures below. Enjoy!

Cottesloe House comes from by Paul Burnham Architect and is located in Perth, Western Australia, in the beach side suburb of Cottesloe. We appreciate the diversity of its exterior design, with the unusual architecture twists. Inside you will notice that most of the rooms are connected, while showing off a contemporary feel. Here is a statement from the architects regarding the project: “Concrete is a recurring theme throughout the house in recognition of the owners’ occupation and willingness to engage alternate methods of construction and finishes. The successful aspects of the property appear to be the sense of privacy, the consistency of light quality and the uplifting sensation from the significant winter sunlight penetration throughout the building.” Like what you see?

Contemporary Wooden Retreat by Johnston Architects

Located on the Oregon Coast, in Bluff Bandon, where Coquille River meets the ocean, this contemporary wooden residence comes from Johnston Architects and is our idea of a stylish retreat. The architecture plan features an “L”-shaped building which is open to both the river and ocean. The amazing natural surroundings were not left out and large windows allow unobstructed views. Enormous cypress trees guard the area and were brilliantly integrated in the building’s design. A cool wooden deck is also part of the architecture. The interior features a modern design enriched with rustic elements and spacious rooms with a fresh feel. What do you say? Does this place match your escape dream home?
Svilen Gamolov Cage Chair

The pursuit of industrial design is often a perilous slope, with a combination of unforgiving materials and minimalist applications making aesthetic achievement a difficult prospect, but Svilen Gamolov’s ‘Cage’ chair succeeds where others have failed. The chair, which combines a frame made up of steel and wood with an upholstered seat, demonstrates Gamolov’s ability to interplay industrial aspects with necessary comforts. Ultimately, the ‘Cage’ succeeds because all of the careful thoughts and efforts incorporated in it remain so highly unified that they are concealed to the viewer, as they should be.

New Bike Share System by RAFAA (CH)
Posted by ts On 22.03.2010
source – dailytonic.com/ by Nora Schmidt
The Zurich based architect and designer Rafael Schmidt submitted this new bike sharing system to a competition which was organised within last year’s International Climate Conference in Copenhagen. The system involves a comprehensive architectural intervention into the urban centre.
“The Bike Share System must become more than just a transporting system. It deals not only with the problem of stocks and flows of people, but must add extra value to its user and to the city itself. We suggest that the Bike Share System becomes an integral part of the city. The bicycles should function as censors and inform the system about certain behaviours, so that the system can react according to the situation. To predict the performance of a system, the entities have to exchange information. An internet-based platform can analyse the different interests and could then manage possible conflicts. The bicycles are equipped with GPS und W-Lan, so they are connected to each order and can inform the system about their position and status. (Is a bike being used? Where is the bike and where is it moving to? Is there a reservation for the bike? etc.) Privacy protection is a matter that has to be taken into account in the process. To increase the number of commuters travelling by bicycle from 37% to 50% by 2015, approx. 25.000 bicycles have to be integrated into the urban fabric; these bikes will need at least 20.000 m2 of storage space. We see a high risk of overloading the squares, streets and stations of Copenhagen. Therefore, our focus is to reduce the „visual pollution“ wherever possible. At the same time, easy accessibility as well as the system’s visual presence has to be maintained (hide & show policy). The following proposal distinguishes between three different trajectory scales: S,M and L.”

Cube Chair by Svilen Gamolov

Although still at the concept stage the “Cube Chair” by Svilen Gamolov provides an interesting example of modern design. The chair, which combines futurist design elements of the 1950’s with modern sensibility, is designed to envelope the user, creating a comfortable and stylized space. I hope to see more creative pieces of modern furniture like these, and I can’t wait to see the Gamolov’s ‘Cube Chair’ fully realized.
